Wow, time flies!

So, time has just flown by. I got sick in late September, and then again two weeks later on Columbus Day. Having the death plague twice in a one-month timeframe really throws everything out of whack. I had to scramble at work, and while I was doing a lot of lying down trying to get well, I was not online.

November had two vacations - I was out of town for most of one weekend to go to a Goo Goo Dolls concert in New Hampshire. That was my birthday present (the show got moved to a month after my birthday) and it was awesome. Then I spend Thanksgiving in Nova Scotia, Canada with my family, the rest of whom were buying land.

This month has been busy with holiday shopping and taking care of Angel, who has been having terrible headaches for the past few days.

This has all added up to me barely being online or on LJ. I am once again far, far behind on my friends list, but I hope to rectify that soon.

I hope you are all doing well, and that your lives have been less crazy than mine!

My weekend could not have been any geekier

Because I spent it on a vacation from reality.

Camping in the woods in a costume.

My first boffer LARP event was fun, and I managed to get only about ten or so bug bites (and no ticks, yay!) and one new bruise on my leg.

Sadly, it rained just about all of Saturday, all of Saturday night, and off an on Sunday. Argh! Very wet tent, and no way to pack it up easily.

But still fun. I was not too cold, though next time I will bring my mummy bag - the regular sleeping bag was too open at the top and let in drafts.

I played a character trying to escape her past which she would not talk about. I fit right in, everyone on the new island settlement was doing the same thing. And I got to dress a bit like a pirate (though everyone called me Gypsy or Surgeon).

I also found you can have fun without needing to swing a fake sword. Also, these folks take their costumes seriously! The number of very well-made coats and cloaks and other costuming was impressive!

Also, this is one of the icons [livejournal.com profile] djinni made me, based on a druid costume.

Merry Christmas, and Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays, whichever ones you celebrate.

We have a norfolk pine as our tree this year, and Mom just added purple garland. It's terribly festive.

I got a BlueTooth headset for making Skype calls and a totally cool tripod: http://joby.com/gorillapod It's grabby!

Back from Old Orchard Beach!

The book launch party for Carousel Tides was a lot of fun, with some great conversation and lovely art. Sharon Lee throws a good party.

I've never been to OOB before, and had a lovely time. Most of the town was shuttered, but the few stores that were open had the nicest stuff, like Board Silly and the candy factory.

That was my birthday mini-vacation. And it was good weekend in a lovely place, with books and book-people.

Edits - the link for Board Silly now actually works!

Wait, what was that again?

Hi.

So, I do exist. Unpacking, work (great new job, lots of work to do), and the new Pathfinder Role Playing Game has really sucked up a lot of my time. Oh, and I also found a local D&D game at the local store.

I'll put up a real post at some point, possibly after I get back from vacation. Said vacation will be taking me to Rochester for part of Saturday, Sunday, and Monday (the 5th-7th). If you would like me to crash your Labor Day weekend, do speak up.

This caught my attention today. I know I've got a number of comic-reading friends, so I must ask: do you think this is a good or bad thing? I'm not thrilled, but maybe a comics geek has a better perspective on this one. Cory? Netbard? Anyone?

Back

Back from vacation.

Back in the same state as Vinny (see icon).

Both a visit to a friend and work have confirmed that the WiiFit is the coolest thing ever. Sadly, no money for a new gizmo and a bigger TV.

Yay, vacation

Once again, I am in Maine.

Arrived Friday evening. I'll be leaving Tuesday night, and staying with a friend on the way back to New York.

Vacation is good. I've already read one book. For reference, I have not had the opportunity to read a single novel since getting my new job and moving. I've been that busy.

Small Favor is a great novel, very well written. Then ending is a real downer- I can see that Jim is setting up for the more depressing middle bits of the long war.

I have another two books with me, as well as a crochet and a knitting project. Life is good.

The beach at Fort Popham is still lovely, and Spinny's still makes great onion rings and amazing blueberry shortcake. Got in to L.L. Bean today, and we had dinner at the Mediterranean Grill (Pastito! Red Lentil Soup! Turkish Tea! Baklava!)

Life is good indeed. Tomorrow, random adventures with M. We never know where we'll end up.

I'll be back home with regular internet access on Wednesday.

Off we go to a resort

One of the less fun parts of being a librarian is writing grants and jumping through hoops to get grant money.

The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has nicer hoops than most.

These hoops include an all-expenses-paid trip to the Sagamore resort.

Sadly, I don't think the spa is considered a business expense. I'm pretty sure I won't be staying in the Castle either.

However, I am not about to turn down three days and two nights at a posh resort on Bill Gates' dime.

I leave tomorrow afternoon, and return sometime Tuesday. The resort has wireless, but may not have a computer lounge for those of us with no laptops. So I may be without LJ access or email for that time.

They have hiking trails! And I bet there is a pool!

Happy Holidatys

Currently very full of food and listening to my parents watch Pirates of the Carribian for the first time.

I went to visit my aunt, uncle, and cousins today with my family (and since I dragged Panther along we outnumbered the other side of the family for the first time ever).

Happy Holidays to freinds - I've got many all over the globe.
