So, I don't always hit LJ every day.

Friday, I was thankful for my local bookstore, and the fact that they will order in anything I need, and are locally owned and operated. Yes, it is handy to wander into a giant chain store and find just what you want on the shelf, but I like local businesses more.

Saturday, I was extremely thankful for Skype. Skype lets me call my Panther over the internet, and talk with him for six hours. And once he gets a web-cam, I will be able to see him. Playing D&D and just chatting is just wonderful.

Today is not over yet, but I think I shall be thankful for back roads. I'll be driving to another town for a con meeting, and taking the back roads the whole way. There is something every nice about driving along the back roads for an hour, past lakes and hills and little towns.

Sooooooooo....

You get out of work at 5:15 because you lost track of time. Fine, your fault.

You drive down to the next decent-sized town for D&D, thinking about what to grab for dinner.

You arrive at D&D, only to learn that the DM is sick and there is no game.

Your phone rings, and it is work, and the computer system that checks out the books is not working.

You then get the voicemail telling you about the fact that there is no D&D, which you only notice now because you are using your phone.

You go back to work, arriving around 6:10, with no dinner.

You read emails, learn how the offline system works, print out that info, and get it to your co-workers.

You then learn that while you were doing all this, the problem got fixed, but the info on how to get the offline data into the system is from an older version of the system and won't work (you can't find an ADDITIONAL CIRCULATION FUNCTIONS menu).

You leave work again, at 7:40.

You thank the gods that your favorite BBQ joint is open until 9:00 and can serve you chili, cornbread, hot tea, and sweet potato pie. And a stiff drink.

They even apologize for messing up said stiff drink - they must not get many people (perhaps many women?) ordering single-malt scotch straight up.

The second co-creator of D&D passed away, after at battle with cancer. He was only 61.

Both of them were relatively young, and it saddens me to think of what more they might have given us.

So, I need to write in this thing more.

Let's see, the holidays happened, and there was lots of driving around, and then seeing my sister after the holidays while she was moving. And I need to get my passport renewed, shince she will be living in Canada for a while and I'd like to visit.

I've found a local gaming group, which is cool. They play war games and board games, and eventually invited me to a D&D game. This is great, I've really missed D&D. We only play twice a month, or one a month if people's schedules are zany, but it's great fun. And I've kind of gotten back into painting miniatures, which I enjoy.

There may be another D&D group eventually. I finally met the doctor around here who plays D&D, and may end up playing in his Pathfinder campaign. Which would be cool, as playing 3.5 again means that the skills would no longer be nerfed.

And I will be near Rochester this weekend. But, not really in Rochester. I'll be at Running Gagg, spending a romantic weekend at a gaming convention. Well, I think it's romantic, but I'm a geek. Anyone else going?

No really....

[livejournal.com profile] haikujaguar did in fact draw what happens when one gets a pet displacer-beast.

It is all kinds of cute.

D&D plans

D&D is hopefully going to start a bit early tonight, so we have plenty of time for the big dungeon crawl. I just hope Scout lives through this.

I saw two snakes on my walk today, which is good as I haven't seen any for a while. Snakes are cool.

World Tree last night was fun- we fought a thing desigened to make us run away and managed to do enough damage to it that it started to use intelligent tactics and made us run away. We got a lot of XP from that.

And Friday should involve a trip to some nice waterfalls, which will be fun. Saturday is the Ren Faire and Garou game. Lots of fun in my future.
