So, when [livejournal.com profile] aldersprig posted Harry Potter make-a-character art, I had to join in.

The quiz put me in Hufflepuff. It's them or Ravenclaw, really.

And Hufflepuff needs the love.

As always, click to embiggen (this one is big):

ARGH, gimme a sec. LJ claims my Scrapbook does not exist. I need to go beat things.

I'm late again.

Friday I had the time to be thankful for Harry Potter. The exhibit was not everything I'd hoped, but it was still good. I really loved seeing props and costumes from the movies. They are stunning. They would be more stunning with better lighting, but still. Very fun.

Saturday I was thankful for Criagslist. I got a new-to-me Mac laptop for far less than a brand new one, and am really enjoying my new computer. Everything works better and faster. Yay!

Today I am grateful for Panther, and being able to spend the afternoon gaming, which was very fun despite the interruptions of my laundry and dinner.

Not sure how I missed this on reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

I suppose this is a spoiler, although it wasn't actually stated in the text of the book:

So, I really want to chat about the book.

Yes, this will have SPOILERS. Those who have not finished the book have been warned.

My thoughts under the cut )

Have finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Best Insult Ever: "Brains like that, you could be a Death Eater, son."

Advice to those who read slower than I do: Bring Tissues. Lots of them. Barely a Spoiler )

Very good book though. It ties up plot threads that came from every other book. A very well planned series.

I finished the book last night at 4 AM. Great stuff.

Got up, had breakfast, was reading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix again at noon. Am now on 502 out of 870 pages.

I like a world where people sing "God Rest You, Merrye Hippogriffs" at Christmas. I bet they even sing the real words to "Greensleves".

Must get ready for game while I am still capable of stopping. I am bringing the book to game though, Lilly is 18 and she woud certainly be reading the latest Harry Potter book. She's even dressing for the occasion- something suitably witchy of course. Now as for jewlery... Hmmm, there are the blue glass spiral earrings and matching necklace of course, but the green glass frog earrings are more fun, and I could even dig out my elf necklace to go with them, I haven't worn that one in ages...

Decisions, decisions.

I bought it at midnight, of course. Spent a while in line to pay, chatting with people, examining the table of contents, and reading the first 9 pages.

I'm up to 178 out of 870 now.

Time for bed. More reading tomorrow.

Money Woes

*Sigh* Yesterday I thought I might be able to go to SIGGRAPH, a big graphics conference. It's in San Diego this year. But I did some quick calculations today, and came to the conclusion that it simply isn't affordable for me, which stinks. Then I found out they wanted students to be there Tuesday-Thursday, and I just can't miss that much class. So the whole issue of money is a moot point for that trip.

However, I really want to go to Florida this fall, for a super-cool get-together with a bunch of friends. It's a yearly thing that we call the Howl, and it's a blast. I had so much fun last year, it's well worth the money to get there. But I'm not sure I'll have the money, and I probably won't know til August. Which stinks, because I could probably get better airfare deals if I started looking around now. And even if I can fly down there, I'll basically be able to pay for food, and that's it. Everyone else seems to want to go to a bunch of theme parks like Magic Kingdom, and I just won't be able to do that. Still, we had tons of fun last year in Maine, no theme parks needed.

I just hope everything works out. I'll figure something out, because I really don't want to miss the Howl.

I'm still not feeling all that great, and I really hope I'm not on my way to getting sick. I didn't get any work done today, between a freezing cold office, paying my rent, and finding out that my paycheck (the first one this quarter) somehow got misplaced. So I have a lot to do tomorrow, since I need to have my proposal handed in to my advisor by 6.

After that I can spend most of the weekend in bed, reading the new Harry Potter book. Yay for good books!
