My favorite bakery!

One of my favorite parts of this summer has been Saturday morning breakfasts at Botto's Bakery in Portland, Maine after dropping QuietDragon off at work (well his former workplace, but that is a story for another time).
Botto's Bakery is a wonderful, locally owned Italian Bakery that has been in business for at least a couple of generations. They have a large wholesale side, and make bread and pizza dough for a whole lot of restaurants in Maine. They also have a very charming retail storefront, with two small tables (though I am the only one who seems to sit and use them, there is a steady stream of people as I sit and eat, buying bread or pastries and taking it all to go.
When you pull up, you are greeted by an Italian flag.

Then you get to the front window, which has a charming display.

And of course, right inside the door you are greeted with a display case full of temptation! Wonderful Italian pastry, and a smaller case off to the side (not photographed) that is refrigerated. I missed that one at first, but it is the home of QuietDragon's beloved Lemon Squares and the Canoli display. They have only a small display, not the actual product, as their sign explains that all canoli are made to order and filled as requested, and not left sitting in a case. This ensures freshness.

This is a sample menu (I am sorry, I thought my phone was in focus). So many choices!

And they have coffee (as well as a small case of cold drinks). Also, a very truthful sign! Their food is wonderful and clearly made with skill and love.

They also sell bread and rolls (and will slice it). This wall of shelves empties FAST!

What do you get from the amazing case of delicious Italian pastry? WONDERS. You get wonders. One of the best things they sell is a croissant FILLED WITH PASTRY CREAM. This fabulous thing gets better, they will flavor the cream. From vanilla, to chocolate, to mocha, to wild berry, it is all very good.
Wild Berry Scone and croissant filled with wild berry cream.

Yes, CREAM!

Other delicious treats below. The fruit tarts have a hard to pronounce Italian name, they are pastry walls, with an almond paste filling, and fresh seasonal fruit. Yes, the peaches were fresh and from Maine. All photos by me, except the peach treat with flowers - QuietDragon took that one after he bought enough for two days of breakfast.

Botto's also hires c;ever people with a great sense of humor! I love their signs, and they are both so true. The first photo is by me, the second is by QuietDragon because he knew I would grin at their awesome sign.

In short, this place is a treasure, with delicious food and is well worth visiting is you are ever in Portland. Me, I plan to stop there anytime I am in Portland in the mornings.
